  1. Excellent Bushing System Installed on 2 Taurus SS 1911s 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th May 2018

These are Excellent bushings. I have installed these on 2 Taurus PT-1911 and they tightened the barrel lockup nicely. I bought them with the rings right at the same size as the barrel diameter of 0.578_in. When I received them I then used 800 grit wet sand paper to polish the machining marks out of the barrels. This gave the barrels the 0.001in dia. clearance needed for the ring to barrel fit. The Briley drop-in busing did just that in the slide with no fitting required. There is just ever so slightly some play between the bushing and slide fit about 0.001_in but is acceptable. Note the original factory barrel-to-busing and Bushing-to-barrel clearance was about 0.009_in dia.
The Briley bushing and polished barrels stopped a chattering effect that was causing hammer fallow. These Taurus 1911s have had a trigger job with new Ed-brown trigger, sear, hammer, and springs. The barrel lockup was so violent it would cause Hammer fallow even with a 6_lb trigger pull. When testing the for functionality, hammer fallow would happen when dropping the slide on and empty chamber and sometimes when loading. But when I installed the Briley spherical Bushings and polished the barrels, hammer fallow completely went away leading me to believe that the barrel chatter was causing the elusive problem.
I then was able to adjust the trigger pull down to a crisp 4-LB pull that I wanted. I could have gone lower on the trigger pull weight but I feel that it is an unsafe practice.
Accuracy has greatly improved and my groups on target are about half the original size at 25yrds. I need to do more ammo testing for accuracy improvement but I am very pleased with the results for the cost of upgrading to the Briley Spherical Bushing system.
